As speculation mounts that the “Slow Horses” star is among those to replace Daniel Craig as 007, Jack Lowden is staying relatively quiet about the possibility of becoming the next James Bond.
In an interview with British GQ, the Scottish actor addressed ongoing casting rumors, including recent comments from his “Slow Horses” co-star Gary Oldman, who publicly endorsed Lowden for the role:
“It’s all very flattering. Whatever role it is, it’s nice to be remembered and I’m not going to make any more noise,” Lowden said. “It’s very nice, and Gary is very sweet; especially coming from someone like him, it’s very nice. But I don’t really listen.”
Lowden, who plays M15 agent River Cartwright alongside Oldman’s Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV spy thriller, suggests that a connection to Bond is almost inevitable for actors of a certain cast and age.
“As a young male actor, usually the moment you don’t play a crazy artist type, the moment you put on a suit people jump on you,” he said.
Lowden’s comments come as the search for the next Bond is reportedly entering its final stages. Like Diversity It was reported on October 23 that Amazon MGM Studio was preparing to hold final screen tests for the role, while Lowden and “Masters of the Air” actor Callum Turner are also believed to be among the contestants. While “Challengers” star Josh O’Connor has also reportedly received an offer to test, other names previously linked to the series include Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Paul Mescal.
Lowden’s name attracted particular attention in September after Oldman suggested Bond producers had already chosen Craig’s successor. Speaking on “The Morning Show” in Canada, the Oscar-winning actor said there were rumors that Lowden would be on the shortlist and expressed his hope that his co-star would take on the role.
“They’ve made their choice, but they haven’t announced it yet. That’s why I trust Jack,” Oldman said.
Oldman later clarified his remarks during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, explaining that he had not heard a rumor that Lowden had landed the role, but merely that the producers had chosen an actor from a shortlist of six.
“So I don’t know [who has gotten the part]But I hope it’s Jack,” Oldman said. He also joked that the headlines appeared to have a direct connection to director Denis Villeneuve, citing insider information about the casting process.
The next Bond film will be the first in the franchise since Amazon MGM takes over creative control from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson in 2025. While Villeneuve is attached to direct, “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is writing the script, and Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing. Casting director Nina Gold is leading the search for the next 007.
Craig most recently played the British secret agent in 2021’s “No Time to Die,” completing a five-film run that began with 2006’s “Casino Royale.” A formal announcement naming his successor is expected before the end of 2026, but Amazon MGM has not confirmed a timeline.
