It’s been four years since Aaron Carter’s death, and his fiancee is honoring his late love while also sharing an update on their son, Princeton Lyrik Carter.
In an Instagram post shared on November 5, Melanie Martin talked for the first time about the day that changed her life forever.
“Some days seem like yesterday, some days feel like a lifetime ago. I wish I could hear your voice, tell you about our day, or chat with you one more time,” she wrote, adding that she misses the man she knew “behind closed doors.”
“You were so much more than the struggles that the headlines or people saw. I wish the world had shown you more kindness and compassion,” he added.
In the midst of her grief, she shared some information about Princeton, who is now 4 years old.
“The hardest part is watching Prince grow up without you,” Martin wrote. “He’s learning a lot and becoming his own little person.”
He added that he wishes the “I Want Candy” singer “could see every milestone. I promise he’ll always know how much his dad was loved.”
He went on to share how Carter’s death taught him the importance of mental health and the need for proper care.
“You never know what someone is silently struggling with,” she wrote, later adding: “Grief has no expiration date. I can smile, create memories, and move on for our son while missing you every day. Both things can be true.”
He concluded by reminding people to check in on their loved ones and be kind to those who are struggling.
“A little compassion can mean more than you think. I wish our story had a different ending,” he wrote. “I wish you had more time. In my heart forever, Aaron.”

Martin has shared photos and videos of Prince over the years. She recently released Harley Quinn and Joker Halloween costumes. The young boy was seen sporting his late father’s signature haircut when he was a rising star.
Carter’s twin sister, Angel Carter Conrad, also shared a tribute on her Instagram story, expressing how much she missed him.
“I love that you still find ways to visit me in my dreams, especially during life’s biggest moments.” he wrote, adding that he would continue to honor her memory.

Carter was found dead in his home in Lancaster, California, on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34. He has struggled with addiction and mental health issues throughout his life.
The teen idol died from accidental drowning in the bathtub after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office report.
