Daniel MacPherson, who recently starred opposite Russell Crowe in “Beast,” has signed on for the sci-fi action thriller “Bluefly,” starring Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
It is directed by Nimród Antal, the producer of the movie “Predators”.
MacPherson will play Dugan, a Special Forces soldier strengthened by years of war, who joins the film’s two leads.
The movie takes place in Congo. Chopra Jonas plays a UN translator still mourning her loss who is drawn into an undercover operation to retrieve a mysterious crashed plane.
The screenplay comes from David Frigerio (“The Monster”), William Eubank (“Underwater”) and Carlyle Eubank (“Barrel”). Following the mixed martial arts action movie “Beast,” in which the two actors shared the screen and were written by Frigerio, the cast reunites MacPherson with both Crowe and Frigerio.
Michael Jefferson produces through Polite Society; Frigerio, G2 Dispatch’s Deborah Glover, Highland Film Group’s Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier, and Vanessa Yao Guo are also producing the film through Broken Open Pictures. Guy Davies, RuthAnne Frigerio, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Jason Kringstein, Katie Leary, Scott Levenson and James Norbury serve as executive producers.
Cameras will soon roll out on Australia’s Gold Coast, where principal photography will take place on the Congo-set story.
Beyond “Beast,” MacPherson’s on-screen resume includes “Land of Bad,” “Poker Face,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” “The Osiris Child” and “Infini.” His TV credits include “Foundation,” “Strike Back,” “APB” and “The Shannara Chronicles,” giving him a long track record of action and genre experience in both movies and series.
MacPherson is repped by Entertainment 360, Buchwald and Benchmark Creative.
