Set in Paris, the story focuses on Jim, a gym-obsessed influencer and the most desired man in the city’s gay world. His status collapses overnight when a strange virus called Heterosis begins turning gay men into heterosexuals. Abandoned by his followers and ostracized by his circle, Jim has only Lucien, a skinny and extremely loyal fan. The two travel to the Marais in search of a treacherous doctor who can cure him.
The film had its world premiere in Cannes, where festival chief Thierry Frémaux described the screening as “one of the most beautiful films in the history of the festival in terms of atmosphere.” Jokers Films was released in France on June 17 and entered the box office list at number 3, behind “Toy Story 5” and “Backrooms”. It has since surpassed 385,000 acceptances and received more than $3 million.
Review of the movie DiversityGuy Lodge wrote: “The humor and storytelling can be likened to ‘South Park’ in its pointless, hurtling climb into absurdity, and the overall cartoonish animation style – clean lines, popping eyes, flat expanses of color in ’80s mall-décor shades of pink, mauve and mint – is a constant reminder of how seriously the whole enterprise should be taken.”
Nguyen and Athané, both Gobelins graduates, wrote the script with Simon Balteaux and Brice Chevillard. They have worked on TV series, plays and feature films, including “The Peak of the Gods”, “Ernest and Celestine”, “The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales”, “Cain’s Swallows”, “The Rabbi’s Cat” and “The Red Turtle”.
David Alric and Arthur Delabays produced for Paris-based adult animation company Bobbypills. The studio’s credits include James Gunn’s DC Studios series “Creature Commandos,” a Netflix series “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix” in association with Ubisoft Film & Television, and the Netflix films “Crisis Jung” and “Vermin.” Umedia (“The Count of Monte Cristo”, “Night of the Zoocalypse”) co-produced CNC’s Avance sur recettes, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the Charente department and the Réunion region, with support from Eurimages.
Global Constellation was formed in 2025 by the merger of London Film Constellation with Munich-based Global Screen.
