‘The West Wing’: Aaron Sorkin Considers Reviving the Series Anyday

“The West Wing” lingers in Aaron Sorkin’s mind.

The hit NBC series, created by Sorkin, ran from 1999 to 2006 and is considered one of the best TV shows of all time. Asked by Entertainment Weekly if it could potentially be revived, Sorkin said: “I probably think about it for a few seconds every day.”

Although he noted that “it would be very, very difficult to do this in the current environment,” he added that “it would be fun” and “I miss it.”

“The West Wing” starred Martin Sheen as President Josiah “Jed” Bartlet, Allison Janney as press secretary CJ Cregg, Richard Schiff as communications director Toby Ziegler, Rob Lowe as deputy communications director Sam Seaborn, John Spencer as chief of staff Leo McGarry, Bradley Whitford as deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman, Dulé Hill as vice president Charlie Young, Stockard Channing as first lady Abbey Bartlet and more.

As for what President Bartlet would think about the current state of US politics, Sorkin told EW: “I want to take a moment before I put those words out of Jed Bartlet’s mouth. I’ll just say that I don’t think his reaction would be any different than most of our reactions to what’s going on right now.”

Whitford and Hill say Sorkin isn’t the only one open to a ‘West Wing’ revival Diversity He said last month that they would both be on board if Sorkin decided to bring him back.

“I’ll work on him,” Whitford said of Sorkin. “I think it could be a limited edition series.”

Hill added: “I think if he writes, then we’ll all be there… It would be a beautiful thing to reorient the collective consciousness of our society toward humanity, connection, and understanding.”

Sorkin is currently making the press rounds for his latest film, “The Social Reckoning,” a sequel to 2010’s “The Social Network,” in which Jeremy Strong played Mark Zuckerberg.
