Martha Stewart apologizes for homeless people’s Halloween costume

Martha Stewart is “very upset” about dressing up as a homeless person for Halloween.

The 85-year-old lifestyle guru apologized on Sunday, calling the shocking situation “insensitive.”

“It’s hard to admit when you’ve really messed up. My earlier statement didn’t go far enough,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I know a lot of people are struggling financially,” he continued. “Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny.”

He concluded: “I’m so sorry. Martha.”

There were mixed reactions to the apology, which was typed into the Notes app on his phone.

One critic commented: “Your choice reflects a complete disconnect from the desperation and suffering of so many people, especially those who are homeless and hungry.”

However, one fan defended him, stating: “We always dressed up as ‘The Tramp’ for Halloween in the 1970s. It wasn’t a big deal. Forget it now, guys.”

Stewart faced intense backlash after posting a photo of herself wearing a beanie and tattered clothes while holding a sign begging for food, which she quickly deleted. He also smeared soil on his face.

“I’M HURRY, HELP ME!” The sign was scrawled on a brown board, the Instagram photo read.

The multimillionaire businesswoman captioned the post: “My QVC candles are perfect for Halloween!!!”

Stewart told Page Six that her costume was intended to bring “awareness” to the issue of homelessness.

“I regret that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious issue of homelessness, offended people, which was never my intention,” she shared.

“Homelessness remains one of America’s greatest challenges and ongoing crises; it is an issue I care deeply about and have devoted a significant amount of time and effort to support charities combating this ongoing social epidemic,” he continued.

Stewart isn’t shy about talking about his money.

Last month, during an appearance on the “Other People’s Business” podcast, he shockingly shared that he earns $65 million a year from Kmart royalties alone.

“We were selling close to $2 billion worth of products,” he recalled MasterClass CEO David Rogier. “This is a huge amount of money. This financed the development of my magazine and the whole business. It was incredible.”

But he does not live lavishly, as he also admits that he “lost about a billion dollars” due to his legal problems in the early 2000s.

Stewart was convicted in the insider trading scandal and sentenced to five months in prison, an additional five months under house arrest, and two years of probation.

“The lawyers took me to the cleaners,” Stewart explained, but noted: “I’m back. I’m doing pretty well.”
