Nicolas Cage left ‘a little bit homeless’ due to collapse in his house

Nicolas Cage says he’s “a little bit homeless” after giant pothole swallowed the driveway of his Malibu home

The “Spider-Noir” star, who shared his Halloween plans while appearing on the main stage at Los Angeles Comic Con on Saturday, lamented that greeting trick-or-treaters at his home wasn’t part of his itinerary.

“I’m kind of homeless right now,” Cage said in a fan video from the event. “Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’ve been living in hotels. So there’s no regular trick-or-treating that I’d like to enjoy tonight.”

Instead, she said, her plans for her favorite vacation include taking her daughter trick-or-treating “somewhere in Santa Monica” and then watching Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror classic “The Shining.”

“This is one of my favorite movies ever made,” he said.

On Sept. 8, a massive, widening sinkhole opened up just outside Cage’s home on Sea Level Drive, causing Malibu to declare a local emergency and issue evacuation orders for 31 waterfront homes. Seven of these homes were red tagged for hazardous conditions.

The crater, 25 meters deep and 30 x 60 meters wide, blocks the only road in and out of the neighbourhood. The homeowners association that controls the private roadway is responsible for overseeing repair work. Work includes excavating to take soil samples and removing debris, as well as placing sandbags to reduce further damage from strong waves and coastal erosion.

In October, Cage obtained four permits to repair damage from the sinkhole.

LA Comic Con marks the “National Treasure” actor’s latest outing to interact directly with his fans. He also appeared at Fan Expo Dallas and New York Comic Con earlier this fall, where he touched on topics including the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his thoughts on artificial intelligence.
