‘Perfect Women’ Renewed for Season 2 with Kerry Washington Returning

“Perfect Women” has been renewed for Season 2 on Apple TV, Diversity has learned. Season 1 star Kerry Washington will return for season two.

The first season of the series is based on Araminta Hall’s book of the same name, while Season 2 will be based on an original idea built around Washington’s character. “Perfect Women” premiered on Apple TV in March. Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara also starred in the first season. Moss’ Love & Squalor Pictures had originally optioned the book for television.

Annie Weisman served as writer and showrunner on Season 1. He will return in Season 2 as co-showrunner alongside Justin Hillian. “Eleanor (Washington) returns to her hometown roots in the affluent black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, but beneath this idyllic surface lie secrets and scandals that threaten to upend everything she thought she knew about her past,” the official logline for Season 2 reads.

“We are thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonate with audiences around the world, and I am thrilled to step back into Eleanor’s shoes,” Washington said. “She’s smart and strong, but she also finds herself caught up in complicated and sometimes messy situations. We at Simpson Street, along with our incredible partners at Apple and Love & Squalor Pictures, can’t wait to explore a new chapter for her and share where this story takes us next.”

Hillian was most recently co-showrunner of the Showtime series “The Chi.” He also worked on shows like “Snowfall” for FX and “I’m Dying Up Here,” also for Showtime. He is repped by WME, 3 Arts and Yorn Levine.

“After a wildly entertaining first season driven by the performances of Kerry, Lizzie and Kate, we jumped at the opportunity to expand the world of ‘Perfect Women’ through Kerry’s fan-favorite character, Eleanor,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV. “Annie and Justin’s exciting new story felt like an exciting and natural next chapter. We can’t wait for fans to experience it.”

Weisman and Hillian are the creators, co-showrunners and executive producers of Season 2. Washington executive produces with Pilar Savone through Simpson Street. Moss and Lindsey McManus executive produce through Love & Squalor. 20th Television and Apple Studios are producing.
