Mark Mortimer, known for his role as Nick Hudson on the soap opera “Another World,” passed away on September 23 after a battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
“Mark Mortimer lived many lives in one,” his family wrote in his online obituary. “He was an ex-military, model, actor, entrepreneur and builder. He was a husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way. But of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that meant the most to him were husband and father.”
Born on April 15, 1967, in Yorkville, Illinois, Mortimer began his acting career in 1996 with the role of Nick in the TV series “Another World”, in which he appeared in 81 episodes over three years. He also made a guest appearance in ‘Spin City’ in 1999 and starred in films such as ‘The Nowhere Man’ in 2005 before ending his career on the big screen.
Mortimer was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. That same year, he and his wife, Christie, founded the Integrative Access Foundation to provide people facing cancer with access to integrative treatments that would otherwise be financially out of their reach. In addition to his acting career, Mortimer served in the United States Army, modeled and founded the company Inside Out Construction.
He is survived by Christie, his daughter Hunter, his mother Sharlene Pearson, his father Emil Mortimer, and his siblings Michael Mortimer, Michele Doyle, Martin Mortimer, Melissa Gassmann, David Mortimer and Tyler Mortimer.
“Mark loved being Hunter’s father,” Mortimer’s family wrote in his obituary. “He was honest with him. He was there. And everything he did as his father was filled with love. When Hunter was little, Mark tucked him into bed every night. As he grew up, he made a deliberate choice to build his life around being his father. He didn’t conform to fatherhood; he planned his work life around fatherhood. Being around Hunter was never something Mark squeezed into his schedule. He was the schedule.”
