The shooting of “Upgraded 2”, which is the sequel to Amazon MGM Studios’ popular 2024 romantic comedy “Upgraded” and, as announced, will also star Camila Mendes and Leslie Bibb, continues in Venice.
Mendes returns to the series as Ana Santos, an intern at a New York City auction house who pretends to have a higher job status after being upgraded to first class on a flight to London. During the flight, she impresses a wealthy young Englishman named William, played by Archie Renaux, with connections to the jet-setting art world.
In the sequel to today’s “Cinderella” tale, where cameras begin rolling in Venice on October 21, Ana is apparently trying to make her mark on the Venice Biennale art exhibition, the world’s oldest contemporary art fair. Becca Gleason, who helms the sequel and takes over from “Raised” director Carlson Young, is shooting on the terrace of the Biennial center, Ca’ Giustinian, overlooking the lagoon’s Grand Canal; In the neo-Gothic Palazzo Franchetti near the Accademia bridge, which serves as the biennial exhibition area; and at the upscale Moro Venice restaurant. So far there is no indication of what Bibb’s role is.
Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who wrote the first film, also wrote the script for the sequel.
Besides Venice and the Biennale, “Upgraded 2” will definitely have an Italian flavor. After 12 days of filming in the lagoon, principal photography will move to Rome, where shooting is planned for another 33 days, according to Italy for Movies, the country’s national portal for film and TV production locations and incentives. The production designer is Italian Luca Tranchino (“Prison Break”, “Domina”). The Italian company serving as executive producer on the sequel is Colorado Film.
Producers for “Upgraded 2” include Mike Karz and Bill Bindley for Gulfstream Pictures, Mendes and Rachel Matthews for the Role of Honor, Lena Roklin for Luber Roklin Entertainment and Piers Tempest for Tempo Production.
