Chris Rock admitted that his obsession with porn contributed to the breakdown of his 18-year marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock.
“I wasn’t a great husband,” the “Everybody Hates Chris” alum told GQ in his “Men of the Year” profile published Tuesday.
“I watched too much porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years.”
Rock, 61, spoke candidly about other mistakes he made during his marriage to Compton-Rock, 57, including not listening, not being kind and betraying three women.
“It’s not something I’m proud of, but it’s something I have to live with,” he added.
The comedian likened his actions to a character in the Marvel Universe who “had to test his powers” and was initially “idle” before helping people.
“They race trains, they lift ocean liners, they try to go to the sun, and then they fall because they realize they’re not God,” Rock explained.
“I tested my powers. I realized that I was definitely not God or anywhere close to it, and I was severely humbled, as I should be.”
Rock and Compton-Rock married in 1996 and had two children, Lola, 24, and Zahra, 22, before splitting in 2014.
“After much thought and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways,” Compton-Rock wrote in a statement at the time.
“Being fortunate enough to live a life of service working with the most vulnerable allows me to recognize the blessings of life even when faced with challenges.”
The exes finalized their divorce in 2016.
Rock and Compton-Rock reunited in May to celebrate Zahra’s graduation from the University of Southern California.
Rock dated Megalyn Echikunwoke from 2016 to 2020 after breaking up with Compton-Rock.
He was also linked to Carmen Ejogo in 2020 and Lake Bell in 2022, and moved in with his current girlfriend Simone Henault in March.
