At the twenty-seventh New Yorker Festival, flame-haired former late-night host Conan O’Brien switched sides of the proverbial table with the magazine’s editor, David Remnick. O’Brien, who is apparently 100 percent Irish, is much less lucky: He has been nominated for an Emmy Award thirty-six times, winning six. His most recent award was for his work as host and executive producer of “Conan O’Brien Must Go” on HBO Max; here he ended one of the longest tenures in late-night talk show history, with a total of twenty-eight years as host; In 2025, Mark Twain won the American Humor Award. In addition to producing a podcast series called “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” he has agreed to host the Academy Awards once again next year.
