Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on “American Idol,” was found guilty of murdering his wife in their Ohio home. The jury deliberated for about two hours Tuesday and convicted him of all nine counts he faced for murder, assault and tampering with evidence.
On Monday morning, February 16, 37-year-old Ashley Flynn was found dead at the couple’s home in Tipp City, Ohio. Caleb, 40, called 911 around 2:30 a.m. and said someone had broken into their home and shot Ashley. Ashley was pronounced dead at the scene. According to local sources, Caleb told police he didn’t see anyone at the house but the garage door was open. Police reportedly found an open side door to the garage, and in front of the door was a refrigerator that had to be pushed to open it. Caleb was booked into the Miami County Jail the following Thursday.
“While the defendant told law enforcement that he was sleeping, his electronic devices documented something different. They documented movement and activity in the hours leading up to Ashley’s murder,” said Matthew C. Joseph, chief deputy prosecutor for the Miami County District Attorney’s Office, in his closing statement. “The defendant said he was asleep. His devices say he was awake and moving.”
The lawyer added: “His being a victim allowed him to do this without being a husband who left his wife for his mistress. Instead, he would have been a husband whose wife was tragically murdered by an unknown intruder.”
Caleb was a contestant on “American Idol” in 2013. In an interview on “Road to Hollywood” on “American Idol” in 2013, he said that he was a music pastor and that his wife encouraged him to audition for the singing competition. “I absolutely love my Lord and I love my wife more than anything,” he said in his interview. “She is very, very beautiful. I love her. I’m a normal person who loves singing more than anything in the world.”
