Martha Plimpton: Shane Gillis Deserves a Spanking for ‘SNL’

Martha Plimpton has joined the list of stars speaking out about Shane Gillis’ poorly-received “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue.

“There’s a guy called Shane Gillis, who I’ve never heard of, who said some really stupid things live on ‘SNL’ on Saturday,” the “Goonies” star said in a video shared on Instagram. “That’s a really stupid thing to do. He deserves a spanking from his mother.”

Plimpton also mentioned that she watched a documentary about Lore Michaels, who created and executive produced the sketch comedy show. “There was a scene in Lorne’s office, between the rehearsal taping and the live show, where a group of people gathered in Lorne’s office to decide what to cut and what to air. The people making the decisions were all white men in the room. All white men. And maybe even all straight white men,” he said. “I think Lorne needs a few more women in that room making decisions. Right? Yeah, I guess.” Commenting on the video, the ‘SNL’ mainstay continued to exclaim her love for Kenan Thompson. “Who’s Shane?” read the title.

Gillis sparked outrage for his misogynistic opening monologue moments after taking the stage on Saturday night. Much of the criticism she faced was the result of a joke about women’s workout clothes. “I haven’t been to the gym in a long time, I didn’t know women dress like whores now?” he said. “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to explain it. [it]. Have you seen? I saw. Have you seen the shorts? They’re neon, bait-colored [shorts]and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and they all come together at the butt hole. And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look.”

Dan Levy shared an Instagram Reel on Sunday reacting in disbelief to the monologue. “Women who wear short shorts at the gym doesn’t make them sluts. It makes men who call them sluts misogynists,” he said. “There’s a difference here. By the way, I’ve seen more male nipples at the gym than females showing off their bodies.”
