Miley Cyrus made Billboard history, but not the kind she was hoping for.
Her latest album, “Bass Persuades”, dropped from No. 1 to No. 157 on the Billboard 200 in its second week, marking the biggest drop from the top spot by a female artist in the chart’s history.
The album defied expectations by debuting at No. 1 on September 28. According to Billboard, it sold approximately 61,000 album units in total, combining physical sales and streaming.
The previous biggest decline among female artists was for Madonna’s “Madame X,” which dropped from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019.
Celine Dion surpassed that mark a few months later, when “Courage” dropped from No. 1 to No. 111.
“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ first album through Atlantic Records after leaving Columbia Records earlier this year.
Atlantic offered the album at a discounted digital price and released 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download variants and one cassette, helping “Bass Persuades” beat out country singer Ella Langley’s “Dandelion” by nearly 70 units.
Cyrus, who mysteriously removed her last name from her social media accounts before the album’s release, celebrated her win when Atlantic sent a flower wreath in the shape of the number 1 to her home.
“Bas’s persuasion to go No. 1 is beyond winning,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram at the time.
“This process was one of the best times for me. Everyone involved made it possible and, more importantly, it was fun and memorable,” he continued.
“Thank you to Atlantic, my team, and everyone who faithfully walks beside me. I love you. To the fans you make my world go round. Making music for you brings immeasurable joy to my life. Forever.”
Taylor Swift returns to No. 1 with “The Life of a Showgirl,” helped by the release of the deluxe “Encore” edition.
Cyrus’ previous album, 2025’s “Something Beautiful,” debuted at No. 4 after selling a total of 44,000 album units.
“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ No. 1 album since 2013’s “Bangerz.”
The latest chart drop is also one of the steepest ever for an album that debuted at No. 1.
Bon Jovi holds the overall record after “This House Is Not For Sale” dropped from No. 1 to No. 169 in the second week of 2018.
While Cyrus hasn’t embarked on a full tour since her “Bangerz” world tour in 2014, she did mention a possible residency option.
He is scheduled to perform two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and October 18.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, nearly 1.5 million fans joined the online pre-sale queue for a chance to purchase one of approximately 18,000 tickets.
“I chose to do the show at the Bowl because I knew my bed would only be a 10-minute drive from home by 11 o’clock,” Cyrus told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe last month.
“Now I’ve learned that my calculations in the queue are correct and people will come to me. I don’t need to drive to you. It’s been proven. This was a test. I won.”
