Nick Cannon is circulating rumors that he and ex-wife Mariah Carey have rekindled their romance.
“I hear we’re getting back together,” she told Us Weekly of the hearsay in a story published Wednesday. “I’m always open [to that]. Our divorce was not complicated. We were able to move on and be the best parents we could.
The 45-year-old comedian shares two children, twins Moroccan and Monroe, with Carey, 57, whom he married in 2008. The former couple finalized their divorce in 2016.
Cannon opened up about the state of co-parenting relationships ahead of her upcoming untitled Netflix docuseries, which will follow her life raising 12 children from six different mothers.
“We talk almost every day or every other day, especially about the kids,” he said of Carey. “We were laughing about it [reports that we’re not close]. ‘Who tells people this?’ I thought. …I will deliver the truth [docuseries].”
Cannon added that he still considers Carey “my greatest friend and my greatest teacher.”

In addition to his twins with Carey, Cannon is also the father of children Golden, 9, Powerful, 5, and Rise, 4, with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion, 5, and daughter Beautiful, 3, with Abby De La Rosa; with son Legendary, 4, Bre Tiesi; and 4-year-old daughter Onyx with LaNisha Cole.
The actor also shares 3-year-old daughter Halo with Alyssa Scott and son Zen, who died of a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer in 2021.
When asked how he describes his relationships with his MOMC (the mother of my children), as he describes them, as “consensual non-monogamy,” Cannon shared that the only mother he has ever been privileged with is Carey.
“I had been married for over seven years and the only person I was monogamous with was my wife because I didn’t want to screw it up,” he explained. “I said, ‘I’m Mariah Carey.’ I’m not ruining it!”

Cannon added, “But I have a lot of love and I want to be the best provider and partner. Not to mention financially, I have the ability to help people, and I think that’s the root of it.”
As for how she juggles so many partners, Cannon said her family tree has to “work as a unit.”
“But it’s definitely compartmentalized,” he explained. “Every mother parent differently. I’m not confrontational, which isn’t always a good thing. I’m learning. I don’t take anything seriously, so I either make a joke or just say, ‘It’s the way it is.’ It helps me reduce my stress.”
Regarding jealousy between partners, Cannon notes that he wouldn’t use that word to describe his dynamic with mothers. But he added: “As the famous quote goes, ‘You can’t please all the people all of the time.'”
“I’m learning that balance. I have 12 children – not everyone will be happy with me and I’m sure we’ll hear everything they have to say when they’re adults. But at this point I’m doing the best I can and everyone has an individual bond with my father.”
Later in the interview, Cannon gave up the idea of ever walking down the aisle again.
“I don’t like the government in my love life. I think the institution of marriage should be respected, but I can’t see myself going through legal paperwork again,” he shared.
