Tom Brady’s marriage to supermodel Gisele Bündchen was said to be in vain as it fell apart.
In an excerpt from Lars Anderson’s upcoming book, “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” obtained by the Daily Mail on Friday, the author claims teammates are worried because Brady has lost an estimated 20 pounds and “spiritual vitality” ahead of their 2022 divorce.
“It was too much for Tom to lose that much weight for his body,” former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians says in the book.
“It was very clear that the cause of his weight loss was stress from personal issues he was dealing with.”
Another coach claims the NFL alumnus “has freakish cheekbones,” according to the publication.
“I’m sorry, but she looked like a cancer patient with really nice hair,” they add. “He looked so miserable, no where near the Tom we all love. He was so stressed.”
Reps for Brady and Bündchen did not return calls to Page Six for comment on Anderson’s upcoming book.
According to the long excerpt, the book, which is scheduled to hit shelves Tuesday, offers a barrage of additional allegations about the unraveling of the former power couple’s long-standing marriage.
The book claims both spouses made desperate attempts to save the union after welcoming boys Benjamin Rein, 16, and Vivian Lake, 13, to whom the former Victoria’s Secret angel allegedly wrote a heartfelt letter to the football star.
After the New England Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2018 Super Bowl, Anderson writes that Bündchen “announced that their marriage wasn’t working” and insisted that she “needed him more of her time, his attention, his heart.”
The letter also allegedly states that the model needs her partner to be more “available” and “needs more time for her own career.”
A teammate said: “How many times have you seen Tom supporting his career?” and said, “There were clearly imbalances there,” especially given that Bündchen was a “bigger international star” than her ex-husband.
Brady, who first announced his retirement in early 2022 but is about to play one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and retire “for good” in 2023, made his own 11-day attempt to save the union, allegedly telling coach Clyde Christensen that he needed to “deal with some personal stuff” before leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2022 training camp, according to the bio.
He then traveled to a private resort in the Bahamas, where he met with Bündchen to work on their marriage.
Coach said he “didn’t know” [Brady] He was going to come back,” and said that when he returned 11 days later, the quarterback “was an empty shell of who he was.”
In the end, none of this was enough, and the bombshell in Brazil allegedly issued the declaration, “We are not compatible.”
“And just like that, he was done,” an insider says of the couple in the book.
Brady and Bündchen got married in 2009 and parted ways for good in 2022.
The football star also shares son Jack Moynahan, 19, with ex Bridget Moynahan. Bündchen, meanwhile, welcomed a son with Joaquim Valente in February 2025 before marrying the jiu-jitsu instructor late last year.
