As for the New York Knicks, Anne Hathaway is their good luck charm.
Let’s look again: On April 20, the Knicks lost Game 2 of the NBA Playoff series to the Atlanta Hawks. On May 1, Hathaway’s movie “The Devil Wears Prada 2” premiered and featured a scene in which Hathaway’s character chats with Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns at a Hamptons party. The Knicks then went on a historic 13-game winning streak and did not lose again until Game 3 of the NBA Finals on June 9 (Trump joined). Hathaway, a New York native and lifelong Knicks fan, has been jokingly credited by you and many others for her change in fortune.
And so, on Wednesday night, Hathaway visited “The Tonight Show” to promote her new erotic thriller “Verity,” and host Jimmy Fallon brought up the Knicks meme before gifting “The Odyssey” star, who is five months pregnant, with an autographed jersey from Knicks savior OG Anunoby. (Hathaway admitted her Anunoby fandom when she nearly hit him and his son while walking into the stands for a ball during a game in November 2024.)
“Are you serious? Oh my God!” Hathaway shouted before putting on the jersey. The Knicks also sent Hathway a gift basket for her baby, filled with a card signed by Anunoby that read, “Best wishes.” Instead of answering Fallon’s questions, he played with my jersey and said, “I’m very excited about my jersey.”
Later in the show, Fallon tortured the pregnant Hathaway with a sadistic game called “The Best Thing Ever”, forcing her to choose between two precious things. At one point, he asked her if she’d rather win another Oscar — she won Best Supporting Actress for her fiery performance in “The Odyssey” — or if she’d rather see the Knicks win another championship.
“I… I… okay…” Hathaway stumbled before opting for another Knicks championship.
“Actually, my nervous system’s response to this choice is really intense,” he explained.
