Now that Halloween is over, Mimi is here to reclaim her seasonal throne.
Like every year, singer Mariah Carey released a video as the clock struck 12 a.m. on Nov. 1, officially marking the start of the holiday season long defined by her 1994 megahit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
As seen in the video, the Christmas Queen is ready to reign.
The video begins just minutes before midnight, with Carey performing at a club in New York City on Halloween night. A singer in a punk ensemble plays “Hermit,” an alternative rock song he secretly wrote under the name Chick in the 1990s. He only revealed his involvement in the punk project to the world years later.
Carey even jumps into the screaming mosh pit for some crowd surfing at one point. But once the clock strikes midnight, the punk vibe melts away. He famously sings the iconic line “it’s time” on the whistle recording.
Carey has the right to declare the start of the winter holiday season. After all, the song “All I Want for Christmas” spent a total of 22 weeks at the top of the Hot 100.
Every year, the pop princess releases a “defrosting” video to announce the start of the holiday season. And the clips became legendary. In previous years, she had appeared alongside comedian Billy Eichner and his twins, Moroccan and Monroe Cannon.
