After Saturday’s HYROX game, Joanna Wietrzyk posted a celebratory post on Stories on Instagram. She posted a selfie lying on a small bed and appeared to be hooked up to an IV. Joanna appeared to make a kissing face into the camera and wrote: “They say go hard or go home…a win is a win.” She added, “Honestly, thank you all for the support. I’ll be back soon x.” So, initially, the 22-year-old didn’t apologize or show any remorse for his poop during the game and the impact it might have had on other contestants.
HYROX co-founder announces new rules after poop incident
The video, combined with Joanna Wittczyk’s initial statement, sparked several days of online debate. From shady nicknames to genuine disgust among athletes and non-athletes alike, the reactions are not good for Aussie players or HYROX organizers.
According to reports, on Sunday (September 13), HYROX China explained how they decontaminated the area after the game in which Joanna participated. Officials said the affected area has been cordoned off and disinfected. Additionally, they plan to replace the venue’s flooring.
“Relevant equipment has been removed from the venue and the waste is disposed of in accordance with municipal waste management standards,” HYROX China says.
Additionally, HYROX World confirms that they have “clear biological contaminants and medical procedures in place.” It made no apology for the poop incident.
“In this case, an unforeseen circumstance has arisen where protocols designed for elite competition and mass participation have become blurred, resulting in an obscurity in how they are applied and understood.”
As of Monday, HYROX co-founder Moritz First A direct apology was issued for the lack of immediate response from match officials during the match. He admitted it was his job to foresee such events, but he didn’t. At the time of the announcement, they had already begun revamping the rulebook.
“As of now, new rules and procedures are in place to prevent a similar situation from happening again. We are learning and working to get better every day.”
