Martha Stewart issues public apology on ‘Today’ show after accusing Craig Melvin of faulting homeless people’s Halloween costume

Martha Stewart has issued a public apology for her “silly” joke accusing “Today” host Craig Melvin of a “tone-deaf” homeless Halloween costume.

Stewart, 85, appeared on the “Today” show on Friday and explained that she was speaking to Melvin, 47, in jest and that she never thought people would take her comments so seriously.

“I was joking, I was giving a speech and I joked that you spilled chocolate on me and I couldn’t wear that costume. [I planned on wearing]said Stewart.

In his response, he admitted that he was surprised that the journalist blamed him because he thought they had given up on the accidental leak, which occurred on a live “Today” segment on Oct. 30, the day before Halloween.

“But I apologized for spilling the chocolate and we moved on,” the journalist said, to which Stewart said he had “moved on now.”

“It wasn’t your fault about the chocolate,” he explained. “I made a mistake. I was stupid. What else can I say? I’m so sorry, and I hope my followers, my fans, and the rest of America will forgive me for doing something that was in no way intended to be a bad thing.”
