Rob Lowe’s youngest son, John Owen, shared a touching poem about hope following the death by suicide of his teenage cousin Fiona.
Over the weekend, John Owen, 30, shared Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the Furry Thing” on his Instagram Stories.
The poem reads: “HOPE is the feathered thing that perches on the soul, sings the melody without words and never stops.”
“And the sweetest sound of the storm is heard; it must be a bitter storm that can overwhelm the little bird that keeps so many warm,” he adds.
“I have heard it in the coldest land and the strangest sea; but never, in the extreme, has he asked for a crumb from me.”
John Owen’s post comes days after his younger cousin Fiona passed away in hospital last Tuesday. He was 13 years old.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a smart, creative and loving young girl who loved to dance,” her family said in a statement to Page Six at the time.
“He was dearly loved by his sisters and deeply loved by his parents. In fact, he was the light of our lives. His passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time,” they added.
The family also urged people to contact the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline if they are “struggling with their mental health.”
Fiona was the middle child of actor Chad Lowe and his wife Kim Painter. The couple also have daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.
Following Fiona’s death, Mabel shared a heartbreaking Instagram post about her late sister.
“I love you so much Fiona ❤️ I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now,” he wrote.
The teenager added, “I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I hope you know how much I love you.”
