“The Batman” star Robert Pattinson has made his first comments after the highly anticipated DC superhero sequel was forced to suspend production last week. Matt Reeves, who returned to direct the sequel, had to leave the production due to “family matter.”
“We’re taking a break for a while and then we’ll figure it all out,” Pattinson told the Official Pop Drop at the UK premiere of his new film “Primetime” at the London Film Festival.
On October 5, news broke that Reeves had to take a step back from filming; No reason was given for his departure, and there was no update on whether “The Batman Part II” would need to move its release date from February 18, 2028.
“Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily halted while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a representative said in a statement last Monday. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing our journey soon.”
Besides Pattinson, other actors in “The Batman Part II” include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
It’s been a long journey for the “Batman” sequel, with many delays along the way. The film was originally planned to be released on October 2, 2026, then Warner Bros. delayed the film by one year to October 1, 2027. The studio later postponed the film to February 2028. Reeves and Pattinson’s first “Batman” was released on March 4, 2022, meaning the sequel will be shot six years after the original.
