Selma Blair suffered ‘psychotic blackout’ during flight years before explosion

The “total psychotic blackout” that Selma Blair experienced on a Delta flight 10 years ago has resurfaced after the actress was arrested for allegedly biting a flight attendant and assaulting another crew member during another air incident.

The 54-year-old star of “Legal Blonde” was arrested Sunday for allegedly punching a flight attendant, biting another and trying to open the plane door while en route from Los Angeles to New York.

But this isn’t Blair’s first weather incident.

The “Cruel Intentions” star was traveling from Cancun, Mexico, to Los Angeles with her then-4-year-old son Arthur and her father, fashion designer Jason Bleick, when the disturbing incident came to light in June 2016.

According to eyewitnesses at the time, Blair was drinking wine during her freshman year when she suddenly began crying and making alarming statements about a man being abusive to her. Allegedly, “He burns my private parts. He doesn’t let me eat and drink.”

Witnesses said the woman continued: “He’s beating me. He’s going to kill me.”

While it was reported that two nurses on the plane tried to help the actor, the pilot warned the authorities that the passenger may have mixed alcohol and medication.

When the plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport, medical personnel boarded the plane and removed Blair on a stretcher. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Blair later took responsibility for the incident and admitted in a statement to Vanity Fair that she mixed alcohol with medication and blacked out.

“I made a big mistake yesterday,” he said at the time. “I take this very seriously and apologize to any passengers and crew I have offended.”

She added that her son was sleeping with his father during the episode and described himself as “filled with shame over this incident.”

Months later, Blair addressed the ordeal on “The Talk,” describing it as “a complete psychotic blackout.”

“I’m someone who should never drink and I rarely drink and I don’t drink anymore but I was going through something,” he explained. “I had a glass of wine and someone gave me a pill that I thought I had taken before… it was something completely different.”

“It was terrible and frightening,” he added, saying he was especially embarrassed that photographers caught him being led off the plane.

Blair revisited the incident in 2024, describing the experience as “horrible and humiliating” in an interview with Us Weekly.

“I was so messed up and dehydrated and hungover and didn’t know I had neurological issues,” she said. “I didn’t understand anything. I had to grow up.”

Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, and in 2021 it was revealed that the debilitating disease was in remission.

The most recent incident occurred on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York City on Sunday, October 11. During the flight, Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant, bit another and tried to open the plane door.

The flight landed ahead of schedule at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where law enforcement was waiting. Blair was arrested and taken to hospital for evaluation.

It was also claimed that he kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head while he was being taken to the hospital and attacked a nurse after he arrived.

Blair, who posted on social media just before the incident, faces federal assault charges related to the alleged flight incident, as well as state charges stemming from the alleged attacks on the officer and nurse.

A representative for the actress told Page Six that Blair suffered a medical emergency leading up to the alleged behavior and was in stable condition after receiving medical attention.

Delta also condemned the alleged behavior, telling Page Six that the airline has “zero tolerance for unfair or illegal behavior” and that the safety of its customers and crew comes first.

The FBI is investigating the latest incident.
