“Sunset PI” has found a handful of new actors.
The new NBC comedy, led by Jake Johnson, will guest star Spencer Moss (“She’s Fine,” “Doctor Odyssey”), Nelson Franklin (“Veep,” “The Social Reckoning”), Patrick Gallagher (“Big Sky,” “Joe Pickett”), David Paymer (“Dave,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Wrenn Schmidt (“For All Mankind,” “Nuremberg”).
“Sunset P.I.,” set to premiere in February, is a single-camera workplace comedy following Mickey Wilder (Johnson), a private investigator working for a former detective agency in Hollywood. Joining Johnson are previously announced cast members Jane Levy, Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby and Keith David.
According to new character descriptions, Moss will play Mickey’s tech-savvy 14-year-old niece Aylie. Franklin will play Kyle, an accountant at a large biotechnology company. Gallagher plays Garr, an LAPD detective on duty at the scene of a murder. Paymer will play Irvin Mandrake, the big-wig movie producer who broke box office records in the 1980s. Schmidt will play Cynthia, a mysterious woman with evil intentions.

NBC announced in May that it would pick up “Sunset PI” to series. The series comes from writers and executive producers Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, who worked together on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The pilot was directed by Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer. “Sunset PI” is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Moss is repped by CESD and Industry Entertainment; Franklin from CAA, Artists First and Hansen Jacobson Teller; Gallagher of TalentWorks and Vanguard Management; Paymer from Stride Management and Independent Artist Group; and Schmidt of Greenlight Management, Innovative Artists and Peikoff Mahan.
