Taylor Swift Dedicates VMAs Video of the Year Award to Dolly Parton

Taylor Swift made her biggest win at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards a touching moment for an icon who has made an undeniable impact on the music world.

Swift, who took home the video of the year award with “Ophelia’s Destiny” at the ceremony held on September 27, dedicated this award to none other than the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton.

Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

“I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person without whom this wouldn’t have happened, and that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton,” Swift said in accepting the speech. “His storytelling was so vivid and rich in every song he wrote. Listening to his songs was like watching the best music video you’ve ever seen in your life.”

A moment of silence was paid to Parton earlier in the night at the awards ceremony. The tribute included an old clip of Parton, as well as a sweet cover of country star Kacey Musgraves’ “I Will Always Love You.”

In her acceptance speech, Swift told the crowd that Parton had handled her career “with such grace and joy and love and gratitude that she had to do this.”

“Everything that was going on in her life or career, she channeled it into her love, gratitude and appreciation for her fans,” Swift said. “I’m lucky to be one of them, and I will always be one of them.”

The night was particularly eventful for Swift, too. The artist took home his first Artist Director Honor award for making “approximately” 60 music videos over the course of his decades-long career, including 18 that he wrote and directed.

Swift also released the video for her single “Patient Zero,” featuring friend and actor Dakota Johnson featuring Colin Farrell.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are hosted by Snoop Dogg at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Madonna ranks first with 11 nominations. The show will feature special presentations such as the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors and the Video Pioneer Award. Taylor Swift, who received nine nominations, will receive the Artist Director Honors award and release the music video for her new single “Patient Zero.” There will also be a tribute to Dolly Parton and George Michael at the ceremony.
