LOS ANGELES– In July, the lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from “The Empire Strikes Back” sold at auction for $3.75 million; This was the highest price ever received for a prop used in a “Star Wars” movie, according to the auction house.
Now someone can buy the sword that does the cutting.
The Darth Vader lightsaber used in the exciting duel in Cloud City in which he told Skywalker “I am your father” is among the highlights of Heritage Auctions’ Ultimate Star Wars Auction on November 12.
The Vader sword, which was also used in “Return of the Jedi,” is expected to gross at least $1 million. It’s one of more than two dozen lightsaber accessories to be offered at auction, which spans “Star Wars” Episodes I through IX and other movies and TV shows from the galaxy created by George Lucas.
Others include Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker dueling with lightsabers, which they wielded in “Revenge of the Sith” and are expected to cost at least $10,000 a piece.
The EE-3 carbine blaster that Boba Fett uses throughout “The Empire Strikes Back” is estimated to fetch more than $100,000.
Also included is a Yoda puppet hand used by Frank Oz in the character’s original appearance in “The Empire Strikes Back,” C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels’ personal third-draft script from the original 1977 “Star Wars” movie, and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
