Police in the Philippines have reportedly apologized to Thomas Markle Jr. after the father was named a person of interest in the child porn case.
“The matter has been clarified, the officers have been very apologetic,” a source close to the case told the Sun in a new report published on Saturday.
The publication reported that Philippine police interviewed his fiancée, Rose Ann Gabuya, and others in their circle who “solved the problem.”
Page Six has reached out to the Philippine National Police for comment.
The report comes just a day after Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Sr., was arrested in Florida on child pornography charges on Friday.
He was released on bail and ordered not to have contact with minors. Thomas Markle Sr. was returned to the dementia care facility where he lived.
The former cinematographer denied the allegations last month.
The Sun’s report comes after Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed at a press conference on Thursday that authorities had received information from a witness who claimed that underage girls were brought to a residence linked to the investigation.
“We have a witness [who says] Underage girls were brought to his home. “We will investigate whether the son was involved in the crime,” Remulla told News5 Philippines.
At the time, authorities emphasized that Thomas Jr. was not considered a suspect at this time.
Thomas Sr. was arrested after FBI agents searched two storage units “registered to Markle in the Central District of California,” according to a criminal complaint filed Friday by special agent Laura Carter.
FBI agents found material suspected to contain child sexual abuse images during searches conducted on October 30 and November 4.
The complaint, obtained by Page Six, alleges that Thomas Sr. appeared in two photos with an underage girl.
In late October, the Sun reported that Thomas Sr., formerly of the Philippines, had child sexual abuse material found in his home and his son Thomas Jr. He first reported that he was under investigation by the Cebu City Police Office after he was allegedly handed over by.
Daily Mail reporters also allegedly discovered child pornography in a warehouse near Thomas Sr.’s home in Mexico and then called the FBI.
The Daily Mail discovered the alleged materials after gaining access to the unit after Thomas Sr. had not paid rent for more than two years.
Meghan had previously reacted to the allegations against her father in the Philippines in a statement to Page Six, calling the allegations “disturbing and troubling.”
The mother of two continued: “Despite the distortions of some media coverage over the years, it is now clear that the distance between my father and me and my choice not to allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason only: to protect them.” continued the mother of two. “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”
A representative for Meghan and her husband Prince Harry told Page Six on Friday that the couple had “no comment” about Thomas Sr.’s arrest by the FBI.
